Raspberry Pi for Elementary and Middle School Students
The SDM Shop 406 Main St, Melrose, MA, United StatesEach student will work with a Raspberry Pi computer and learn how to connect it, get it running, and begin programming basic projects. No prior experience is required, but this lesson series requires a middle school level of reading, typing and math including simple multiplication and division. In the past, the Raspberry Pi was programmed to create sounds based on color input.
Lego Robotics Introduction for Elementary and Middle School Students
The SDM Shop 406 Main St, Melrose, MA, United StatesStudents will work individually or in pairs with a Lego Spike Prime kit. Time will be split between learning how to build a robotic device, and programming basic robotic functions. Lego programming is done in Scratch-like block coding.
Digital Art for Elementary and Middle School Students
The SDM Shop 406 Main St, Melrose, MA, United StatesIn this lesson students will learn to draw a complex picture on an iPad using different drawing and coloring techniques. We use the Procreate program on iPads, with Apple pencils. Procreate includes the ability to add animation to pictures and this will be introduced. Students’ completed pictures can be emailed to them at the conclusion of the lesson. There is no minimum age recommendation, as no reading or math are required. Competence in using a computer is required.

What is Inside a Computer for Elementary and Middle School Students
The SDM Shop 406 Main St, Melrose, MA, United StatesWe will take apart and reassemble a computer, and other pieces of equipment. Everyone will have hands-on experience of what the pieces of a computer look like, what they do, and how they fit together. No prior experience is required. Due to the nature of this lesson, students will be required to follow directions, demonstrate patience, and listening skills.
