Did your Mac or Macbook stop working entirely? Is the mouse cursor stuck in place? Did a program have a critical error and now you are stuck? In this post we will talk about how to unfreeze your Mac and restore productivity.
Forcequit menu
The first thing we will do is enter the Force Quit Menu. You can either click on your Apple menu in the top left corner and choose Force Quit or press CMD, Option and Escape (esc) keys on your keyboard at the same time.
Once open select the program that is not responsive, and hit the “Force Quit” button. For this example we will select Google Chrome.
Activity Monitor
You can also hit CMD + Space bar to enter the activity monitor. Here we can end any process on the computer.
With this method shown below, we will select Google Chrome and hit the circled X up the top.
Last Resort
Lastly, if you can’t access the task manager or anything at all you may need to hard restart the Mac by holding down the power button. If capable of shutting down normally uncheck the “reopen Windows when logging back in incase the culprit program is corrupt.
If none of these issues solve your solution, try opening Disk Utility and use the First Aid option to scan the drive for errors. if the OS doesn’t seem to be the issue try repairing or reinstalling the afflicted app.
