How to Use the Windows 11 Installation Assistant

If you want to install Windows 11, but it isn’t in the updates, then knowing how to use the Windows 11 Installation Assistant may be for you.

Follow along to find out how to check that your computer meets the Windows 11 hardware requirements, and how to use the installation assistant to run the upgrade.

Why Would You Need It?

Users who ignored the Windows 11 update notice in their settings may no longer see it offered. Or you may have had trouble running the Windows 11 update.

The Windows 11 Installation assistant is a program you can download from Microsoft’s website to manually initiate the Windows 11 install.

Check device compatibility

If you already had the option to upgrade in your settings but deferred it until it vanished, then your device should be compatible. You shouldn’t even see the option if your device is not compatible.

If you are unsure if your PC is compatible, search your computer for the PC Health Check app and use the tool there. If you don’t have the app, you can download it here.

After running the check, Microsoft will provide a detailed explanation whether or not your PC can be upgraded. Access this information by choosing the “See all results” button.

If you find your PC isn’t compatible, Windows 10 support ends in October of 2025. We suggest you consider purchasing a new computer by then to ensure security and full functionality.

Using the Tool (for computers running Windows 10)

Before performing any type of major update like this one, make sure you have backed up your computer.

The first step is to go to the Microsoft’s Official page.

Go to the “Before You Begin Using the Installation Assistant Tool” section.

Be sure to read through the section thoroughly before initiating the installation process.

Next, click the Download Now button to download the package’s installer.

Once downloaded, Open the program. This can be done from your browsers download section, or from file explorer.

Once open, you will need to accept the user agreement. The operating system will then start downloading.

When the installation is complete, a timer begins, telling you the PC will automatically restart in 26 minutes. This allows you time to save any work if you need to. If you wish to restart as soon as possible, hit the “Restart Now” on the bottom right to initiate it.

The PC will potentially restart itself several times. Be sure to keep it plugged in, and never interrupt the power during the process. This can corrupt the installation and cause many problems, potentially requiring an entire reset of the computer.
