You’ve probably already seen the option to set up a passkey for certain apps or websites and wondered what it means.
A passkey is a new method for logging in without typing a password.
It replaces your password with something you already use, like your fingerprint, Face ID, or phone unlock code.
Transcript: What are Passkeys?
You’ve probably already seen the option to set up a passkey for certain apps and wondered what it means.
Passkeys are a new way to log in without typing your password. We know passwords can be hard to remember, especially when they’re long and complex.
Creating a passkey lets you use your fingerprint, Face ID, or phone unlock code instead. It’s easier — and can be even safer than two-factor authentication — because there’s no password to steal or code to intercept.
Passkeys can take the stress out of logging in and add extra security to your accounts.
Give us a call if you’d like to learn more about them!
What is a passkey really?
“Passkeys are like a digital key.
Instead of typing a password, your device uses your fingerprint, face, or a PIN to log you in.
It’s faster, easier, and more secure.
And you don’t have to remember anything.”

Why Are Passkeys Better Than Passwords?
Passwords are hard to remember—especially when they’re long and complex; and reusing them across accounts is risky.
Passkeys:
- Can’t be guessed
- Can’t be reused on other sites
- Are harder to steal
- Don’t need to be remembered
Because passkeys use biometrics or device-based authentication, they’re also safer than two-factor authentication in many cases. There’s no password to steal or code to intercept.
Where Can You Use Passkeys?
Many major services already support passkeys:
- Apple
- Microsoft
- Amazon
- PayPal
…already let you use passkeys to log in. In fact, this year on World Password Day, Microsoft made an official announcement for its push to use passkeys when possible.

What’s the Catch?
Not every website supports passkeys… yet.
Also, you usually need to use the same device (or sync between devices) for your passkeys to work.
The good news? Support is growing quickly, and most smartphones already support passkeys today.
Final Thoughts
Passkeys make logging in easier and more secure. No more forgotten passwords. No more phishing attacks. Just a quick tap or scan, and you’re in.
