The Share icon lets you send content from one place to another.
You’ll usually see it as:
- An arrow pointing upward or outward
- Three dots connected by lines
- A box with an arrow coming out of it
No matter the design, the meaning is the same: this lets you pass something along.
Where You’ll See It
The Share icon appears in lots of apps and websites, including: photos on your phone, news articles and blog posts, videos, social media posts, and maps and locations
Any time you might want to show something to someone else, or save it somewhere, the Share icon is usually nearby.
What Happens When You Tap Share?
When you tap the Share icon, a menu opens with different options for sending or saving the content.
Depending on your device, you might be able to:
- Text the link to a friend
- Send it through email
- Post it on social media

Share vs Send: What’s the Difference?
People sometimes confuse the Share with Send, but they work a little differently.
